My 09 plate 74,000 mile BMW 118i has just been diagnosed as needing a new engine by BMW Maidenhead as a result of the timing chain tensioner failing and getting sucked into the rest of the engine, causing damage.

After slackening the central bolt, the camshaft sprocket on the timing chain and the camshaft sprocket on the oil pump are no longer frictionally connected to the crankshaft (risk of damage)..
if so its just a air lock,ether leave the car ticking over for about 2hrs or ,pull the plug off the front of the control unit and the rattle will go away keep doing this and the rattle will go away
