The City Arborist Division is part of the Atlanta's Office of Buildings and is responsible for protecting trees on private property throughout the City of Atlanta. However, while the Office of Buildings oversees the permitting for public buildings, it does not have responsibility for trees located in city parks, public space and right-of-ways (street trees). Publically owned trees are protected by the Office of Parks which resides in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
